December 2007: Still playing at
The Joint most Mondays with Waddy and Brett.
Rick is on the road with Neil Young, so Al Ortiz from Stevie Nicks band
is filling in on bass. He is really
great! Rick will be back in January.
Just finished gig in Laguna Beach at Mozambique with Bernard Fowler, Blondie
Chaplin, Lisa Fischer, Daryl Jones (all in Rolling Stones touring band) and
Waddy. Place was packed and crowd and
band were awesome.
I have been writing and
recording a bunch of tunes at my studio in Hemet, CA. They are coming out great and I will post them here soon.
August 2006: The Joint band is
still going strong. THE WADDY WACHTEL / JOINT BAND Bernard
and Blondie are on the road with the Rolling Stones, so we have added Brett
Tuggle on keys, guitar and vocals. He
is a great player and singer, who has worked with tons of people, including the
Coverdale Page band, Chris Isaak, Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie
Nicks, etc. etc. Rick is out for a while with CSNY, so Angus Thomas (John
Mayall, Mile Davis etc.) is filling in on bass quite admirably. I am still working with Johnny Rivers on the
road and in the studio. Recent guests have included Lester Chambers from the
Chamber Brothers and Peter Stroud from Sheryl Crow’s band.
June 2005: We are still at The
Joint. The band is now Waddy, Rick,
Bernard, Blondie Chaplin (also backup vocals for The Stones and a solo artist
in his own right), and myself on drums.
Terry Reid is gone. Keith Richards has been back twice, most recently
this week on June 20th.
This time he played the whole second set. Neil Young also visited in May and played at least a half an hour
with us. That was great. We are about
to take a month or two off as Waddy is out with Stevie Nicks and The Stones are
cranking up again. Rick is recording
with Neil Young. I’ll be out some this
summer with Johnny Rivers, but only for a few gigs. I’ll try to update sooner that a couple of years from now next
time. Oh yeah, and I’m working on a
project for the Cowsills too.
Percussion overdubs.
January 2003 finds me still
playing every Monday night at The Joint, but with a slightly different lineup
and some changes. Jack Tempchin has
left the band and Bernard is on the road with The Rolling Stones, although he
still comes and joins us when in town.
Stacy Plunk (Stacy P. from Tennessee) has joined us permanently now on
vocals and guitar. Since the last update, we have had Donovan, Eric Burdon,
Cheech Marin, Mike Campbell and Ron Blair of TP’s Heartbreakers, and Keith
Richards come and play songs with us.
We have also been playing in other clubs in LA from time to time. I’ve been recording with Mike Campbell and
recently did a project for Keith Allison.
As of December 2001, the Big
Monday band below was still going strong, now officially including Bernard
Fowler and Terry Reid. Guests had been Roger Daltrey of THE WHO, Joe Walsh of
The Eagles, Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Steve Jordan
from Keith Richards' band, Darryl Jones of The Rolling Stones, Bobby Womack,
and George Clinton.
Now working with Jack Tempchin
again in 2000, I will be playing at The Joint at Pico & Robertson in LA on
Monday nights with Jack, Waddy Wachtel, Rick the Bass Player and selected
guests. Special guests so far have included Johnny Rivers, George Thorogood,
Bob Glaub, Hutch Hutchinson, Bernard Fowler, Keith Allison and John Jorgenson.
I have also been busy recording demos at Smartso Studios in LA with Johnny
Rivers, J D Souther, etc.
In 1997-98, I worked in a band
with Jack Tempchin, who wrote "Already Gone" and "Peaceful Easy
Feeling" for the Eagles, Berton Averre from The Knack, and Rick Rosas from
Joe Walsh's band. I produced an independent project for Fred Zinn and The
Druthers, and also produced a project for Singer / Songwriter Mike Angeloff,
with Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys on vocals. I played with Joe Walsh for
President Clinton and did some gigs with Terry Reid.
In 1992-94, I toured with Joe
Walsh, on drums, and gigged with Mick Taylor, Waddy Wachtel, Elliot Easton and
Terry Reid.
I toured steadily as
percussionist with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers from 1979 thru 1983, playing
on virtually every gig they did during that time.
In 1969 thru 1972, I was in a band
called Crabby Appleton, which recorded two albums for Elektra. We had a top 20
hit called "Go Back" and received excellent reviews for our records
in Rolling Stone and Creem. Both albums
have now been released on CD and are available at Collectors
Choice music.
I am always looking for quality
projects, either on drums or percussion. I also have experience with computer
sequencing and have done some sound track work in that medium.
I am also looking for bands to
produce. I have produced independent projects for bands in my area of Southern
California, (about halfway between LA and San Diego), and am looking for bands
to work with. I have access to several good studios, as well as my own studio
equipped with a ProTools TDM system
